Case study: Premier Foods

Thermolast Roofing Ltd are very proud to have just completed a complete refurbishment of the main factory roof at Premier Foods Carlton Barnsley.

The roof was just over 30,000 square metres in total and was completed in 2 years in 4 continual phases.

The roof was partially stripped to an original mechanically fixed insulation board and then overlaid with an all new roof covering including Heat activated underlay, another layer of insulation and capped off with the IKO Mach Two 5mm Elastomeric roofing membrane.

In addition to the roofing works there were numerous other items installed including new access stairs to level changes, new vertical roof to ground level emergency exit ladder and all new roof mounted guard rails to the entire perimeter of the roof.

We also installed 37 new roof access hatches with hydraulically operated insulated solid lids.

On a project of this size there were inevitable surprises to be dealt with along the way. For example, when we were installing perimeter edged details it was noted that the brick ties at the top of the wall needed some maintenance work. We sourced a reputable specialist company to install new Brick Ties to several sections of brick work at the roof level.

Finally, there was a new lightning conductor system installed and we assisted with the installation of new torch applied lightning conductor pads with clips.

All four phases of the roof works were electronically integrity tested to ensure we left a completely watertight roof and this was provided to the client with a full manufacturer backed Single-Point 20 year guarantee.
